March 20, 2008

Miami Gardens, Fla. - The St. Thomas Tennis teams played New Jersey Institute of Technology and split with the women losing 8-1 and the men winning 5-4. The men's (5-4, 2-3 in FSC) victory was a complete team effort which featured a high quality performance during a high pressure singles match by Kenneth Evans. He won in singles play 6-3, 7-6.

Evans worked well with teammate Diego Paredes in doubles play also, yet this time the fans of the Bobcats finger nails' were spared as the duo won convincingly 8-1. Evans was not the only Bobcat to win every time he stepped on the court against NJIT, Paredes won in singles play also, winning 6-2, 6-4.

Acevedo, Marquez and Vazquez scored the other two points for the Bobcats. Acevedo teamed with Marquez to win in doubles play 8-6 and Vazquez won in singles play 6-1, 6-1.

The women's (1-8, 1-4 in FSC) team despite their effort, were not as successful as the men's team. Getting the Bobcats on the score board was Hollis Hunt. She won in singles play 6-1, 6-2.

Both teams will play again March 25 at home against Lindenwood University at 2:00 pm.
