Bobcats celebrate senior against Seahawks

Miami Gardens, Fla - St. Thomas celebrated and acknowledged the careers of Carly Laskowski, Melissa Guerra, Sandra Vargas, and Tiffany Vega for senior day. Unfortunately the Bobcats were unable celebrate a win as well as they lost to the Northwood Seahawks 3-0.

During the game Katya Salguero scored the first goal of the game kicking it past Lea Jones. The Bobcat (8-8-1 FSC 2-3) goalkeeper had a long day as Northwood out shot St. Thomas 13 to six. Jones showcased her ability on eight of those shots preventing the goals to register them as saves.

The second goal of the game for the Seahawks (12-1 FSC 5-0) would come with Jones a couple yards away from the goal on a loose ball. Emelie Lindstrom took advantage of the loose ball and softly placed in the back of the net.

The final goal came after a corner kick by Katya Salguero, allowed Emelie Lindstrom to pass the ball to Sofia Soras for the goal.

The Bobcats ended their regular season and are anticipating an appearance in the regional tournament beginning Nov. 2.

Laskowski has been a starter and key contributor for the Bobcats since she was a freshman. In 2006 she was Florida Sun Conference Honorable mention and this year she was named Defensive Player of the Week in the Florida Sun Conference for her play during the week of October 10.

Guerra had an assist in the 7-1 rout of Warner Southern this year and a crucial goal in the teams 3-2 victory over Palm Beach Atlantic.

The third senior honored at the beginning of the game was Vega. She has been an Athletic Academic winner since her freshman year and a member of the Dean's List since her freshman year. She has also been named FSC Honorable Mention 2004-2006.

Vargas, who also plays tennis made the FSC Second Team as a junior, voted athlete of the year and women's soccer MVP in her sophomore and junior years. She has scored 35 goals over her career and registered 18 assists. In 2004 she was named to the NAIA All-Region and FSC First Teams. This year she was named FSC Offensive Player of the Week for the week of October 3.
