Bobcats get back on track

Oct. 19, 2007

Box Score

St. Petersburg, Fla - After losing three in a row the St. Thomas Bobcats traveled to Eckerd College and grinded out a 3-2 win. Scoring the winning goal for the Bobcats was Tiffany Vega with just under 10 minutes left in the game.

Frances Brlit quickly put the doubt created by the previous three games behind the Bobcats (8-5-1 FSC 2-2) scoring the first goal of the game a little over 13 minutes into the game. Her goal came after an assist by Sandra Vargas.

The Bobcats would maintain their 1-0 lead into half time. After intermission Megan Gunzelman tied the game after an assist by Sarah Bird.

Vargas would make an impact in the game again, this time scoring after an assist by Melissa Chang. Making sure the Bobcats did not get an easy victory less than two minutes later Liz Kinny would pass the ball to Magen Schifiliti for another Eckerd (0-15-1) goal which would tie the game up again.

Fortunitely for the Bobcats Vega had energy left in her tank and would manage to score the winning goal past Eckerd goalkeeper Cory Hawkins. The goal was the third she allowed in a 90 minute eight save performance.

Like the games during the Bobcats' five game winning streak they out shot Eckerd. They attempted four shots while St. Thomas attempted 19. The Bobcats were able to keep possession of the ball and the pressure off of Bobcat goalie Lea Jones who saved two shots during the game.

St. Thomas plays again at St. Leo October 20 at 7 PM.
