April 14, 2008

Lake Wales, Fla - The St. Thomas University Men's Golf won the Florida Sun Conference (FSC) Championship for the first time since 1998. Bobcat golfers Je Her (3rd place, 219), Alejandro Valasquez (4th, 221), and Juan Ordonez (4th, 221) received All-FSC and ALL-Region First Team honors for their play. All part of a team effort which produced a season record score of 884.

Second year head coach Alex Fernandez received FSC Coach of the Year honors, the first since for the school since 1998.

The Bobcats fell one shot of defeating NAIA Region XIV tournament winner Johnson & Wales. The 54-hole tournament was played April 13-14 at the Lake Wales Country Club, a Par 72 course spanning 6,855 yards.

St. Thomas will wait until the end of April to find out if the team will receive an at-large berth to the NAIA Men's Golf Championship. Johnson & Wales University receives an automatic berth for the Region XIV victory. The individual winner of the tournament, Dave Tobon of Johnson & Wales University, shot a 215.
