FSC post season awards announced

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The 2008 Florida Sun Conference men's basketball All-Conference teams were announced at the FSC Tournament banquet hosted by Northwood. Antonio Jones was named First Team All-Conference. Jones led the conference in scoring with 26 points per game, finished fourth in steals with 2.12 a game and was named FSC player of the week once during the regular season. Taking home the league's top honors was Northwood junior DeSean White who was tabbed as the Player of the Year. White, who hails from Philadelphia, Pa., averaged 18.4 points and 8.6 rebounds per game during the regular season and was also picked as the Newcomer of the Year. Northwood head coach Rollie Massimino was named Coach of the Year after leading the Seahawks to a 12-2 league record and the program's second FSC regular season title in just its second year of existence. The Seahawks were 24-6 overall heading into postseason play. Savannah College of Art and Design's Eze Andrews earned Defensive Player of the Year honors as the Bees (14-17, 7-7) took fourth place in the league. Andrews, a senior from West Orange, N.J., averaged 13.5 points and 3.58 assists per game and finished second in the league in rebounds (9.03 rpg) and blocks (2.24 bpg). Freshman of the Year honors went to Edward Waters' Johnny Nelson. The Jacksonville, Fla. native averaged 9.04 points, 5.68 rebounds and 2.18 assists per game to help the Tigers (18-11, 6-8) to a fifth place finish in the conference.
