Gene's Team
January 22, 2008
Gene's Team is a brand new weekly feature here at stubobcats.com that recognizes our best players throughout the past week. This past week the Men's Basketball team fell short against conference rival Embry Riddle but avenged that loss by winning a close game against Edward Waters. The Women's Basketball team had one game this week against Florida Memorial but lost by the score of 70-55. Here are some of the standout players from this past week... Antonio Jones: This player makes the team this week for his performance against Edward Waters this past Saturday. Jones scored a team high 21 points Saturday and also collected 3 assists and 2 steals. The final score of the game was tight and Jones did a great job utilizing his speed to burn the clock at the end of the game. Little things like that don't show up in the box score but were crucial in snapping the Men's Basketball team's 8 game losing skid. Ceser Chavez Jacobo: Cesar makes the team this week for his work in the Bobcat's win Saturday. Cesar was a workhorse on defense pulling down a team leading 7 boards and 1 block. He was also one of four players to score in double figures. Cesar also threw down a game changing dunk in the second half that seemed to re-energize his teammates and the fans at Monsignor Pace. Hopefully, the Bobcats can carry some momentum on the road as they try to take down Warner Southern this Thursday night. Cindy Castrillon: Cindy earned a spot on Gene's Team for her effort this past Saturday against Florida Memorial. Cindy scored a team high 15 points and dished out 4 assists. Unfortunately, the Women's Basketball team struggled offensively and lost the game by the score of 70-55. The Bobcats continue their road trip Tuesday night at Palm Beach Atlantic. Francesca Dernocelley: Dernocelley earned a spot for her performance in the loss against Florida Memorial. It was her first game back from injury and she gave a solid performance off the bench. She pulled down 6 rebounds, shot 57% from the field, and swatted a game high 3 blocks. Dernocelley's post presence will be crucial if the Bobcats want to move above .500 in the Florida Sun Conference. |
