Bobcats lose final home game

Feb. 16, 2008

Box Score

Miami Gardens, Fla. - Antonio Jones led the St. Thomas Bobcats in scoring with 30 points in a losing effort against the Savannah College of Art and Design Bees. The final score was 61-58. A 12 point and 14 rebound double-double performance by Eze Andrews provided the substance for the Bees (12-16, 5-7 in the FSC) while Chas Johnson's clutch shooting down the stretch closed the Bobcats (9-16, 3-9 in the FSC) out. Two missed three-pointers by Jones in the final six seconds nearly negated Johnson's 14 points, 10 of which came in the second half.

The game was very physical from start to finish, the Bees earned three technical fouls and the Bobcats earned two. St. Thomas countered SCAD's early physical play with a balanced offense, resulting in a 15-9 Bobcat lead at the 10:17 mark.

The St. Thomas offense would stall for the remainder of the half, producing eight more points. The SCAD offense scored 15 points during the final 10 minutes to build a 27-23 half-time lead. Ron Kus scored 8 of his 11 points during the final nine minutes of the first half for the Bees.

The Bobcats spent most of the second half in foul trouble. Cesar Jacobo Chavez, Ian Gregory, and Jones all ended the game with four fouls while Tracy Razz fouled out with 10 points.

The foul trouble led to the Bobcats trailing by as much as ten with less than seven minutes in the game. The Bees almost relinquished their lead after St. Thomas Coach Clark Maloney played all his players in foul trouble at once. The last ditch effort to win the game brought the Bobcats with in one point of the Bees with 47 seconds left.

The Bees made 54 percent of their three-point attempts and 49 percent of their shots overall. St. Thomas did not shoot as well as the Bees making 31 percent of their three-point attempts and 38 percent overall. The game remained close because St. Thomas was able to collect 10 of their 21 rebounds on the offensive side of the floor and force the Bees into 19 turnovers.

The Bobcats play again at 7 PM February 20 at Florida Memorial.
