Box Score

Miami Gardens, Fla. - The St. Thomas University Baseball team celebratated a three game winning streak and mourned the end of it in the same day winning the first game of their double-header against the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Rangers 6-0 and losing the second game 9-8.

Miguel Hernandez pitched the complete game shutout for the Bobcats (12-11, 4-6 in FSC play) in game one. He retired nine batters during the game and forfeited three hits over seven innings.

Offensively for the Bobcats sparks began with five runs in the second inning. David Paulus was guilty of allowing all five runs and was credited with the Ranger's (2-10) loss.

Both Juan Santana and Richard Bandrich hit doubles in the inning which brought in two runs each. After the second the Rangers made a pitching change which kept the Bobcats off the board for the remainder of the game except for when Adrian B. Gonzalez sent a solo home run out of the park on then pitcher Alex Triantafillo.

The Bobcats began the second game much like the first, this time posting six runs in the second inning. In that inning Santana managed to hit a home run of his own off of starting Ranger pitcher Travis Klostermann. The homerun scored four runs for the Bobcats.

The other two runs of the inning were scored when J.C. Perez and J.C. Gill scored after Adrian Gonzalez and Manny Escalona singled respectively. The Bobcats would score two more runs over the next three innings and would find themselves heading into the bottom of the fifth winning 8-1.

The Bobcats would allow four runs in the fifth inning before they managed to get an out. The Rangers bats were suddenly hitting everything Bobcat starting pitcher Mauricio Rodriguez threw at them. In the inning the Rangers scored on two doubles and a triple. Mike Fuchs hit the triple which produced two RBI's.

The Rangers scored one run in the sixth and one more at the top of the seventh which put them behind by one run with two outs. This is when Fuchs returned to the plate for a walk-off single that sent two other Rangers across home plate.

The Bobcats will play again at home, March 21 at 6:00 pm against Northwood University.
