Bobcats grab two wins against Nyack Warriors

March 18, 2008

Box Score

Miami Gardens - The St. Thomas University baseball team won back to back games against the Nyack College Warriors Tuesday afternoon by the scores of 9-0 and 8-2. C Nick Martinez was on top of his game all day and hit a combined 6 RBI's with a .625 batting average. The top hitter for the Warriors was Cody Levins who batted in all runs for his team.

The Bobcats came out in the first game with a steady dose of offense and solid pitching. The Bobcats scored at least 2 runs in each of the first 4 innings thanks to Martinez, DH J.C. Perez, and RF DePhillip Mason who 2 RBI's each. High scoring games are common for the Bobcats but pitchers Chris Cuadra and Kelvin Colon made the difference by only allowing 3 hits.

The second game started much different from the first with 2 quick runs by the Warriors. After giving up a couple runs, Jose Mendoza rediscovered his rhythm by striking out 7 batters and holding the Warriors to 0 runs. Steady hitting from 1B Juan Santana (2-3) and a monster 3 run homer from Martinez locked up the second win of the day.

With these two wins the Bobcats move above .500 with an overall record 11-10. Their next game will be apart of a double-header at home against UW-Parkside tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 PM.
