Bobcats Drop First Game Against Sailfish

March 14, 2008

Box Score

Miami Gardens, Fl. - The St. Thomas University baseball team lost Friday night's game to the Palm Beach Atlantic University Sailfish 10-5. 1B Juan Santana had a solid game going 2-4 with 2 RBI's. PBA's starting pitcher Isaac Hicks captured the win and Joaqin Valdes was their top batter going 2-5 with 4 RBI's.

The Sailfish came into the game with a 7-17 record but you would never know it from watching the first inning. They came out and score 5 runs in their first five at bats including a 3 run homer from Valdes. Bobcat pitcher Johnny Montoya was getting rocked but stayed calm in the face of adversity. After the home run, Montoya would only allow one hit over the next 4.2 innings. In the meantime, the Bobcats would slowly climb back and tie the game in the fourth inning thanks to Santana, RF DePhillip Mason, and LF Anthony Paniagua who all batted in runs.

From the fifth inning on the Sailfish would shutdown the Bobcats. They put up 5 more runs in the last 5 innings while holding the Bobcats to 0. Hicks and Sailfish reliever Brett Richardson dominated the last half of the game by only allowing 3 hits.

With this loss the Bobcats move to a 7-10 overall record with a 4-6 conference record. They will have a chance to avenge this loss with two games against the Sailfish beginning tomorrow at 1:00 PM.
